“When selecting your evening mood, consider whether you want to be coy or overtly seductive,” recommends Yann Vasnier, a perfumer at Givaudan who has created scents for Donna Karan and Estee Lauder.
Yann shares some great advice on finding a scent that suits your brand of sex appeal.
Flirty. Yann recommends mouthwatering dessert notes, like berries and caramel, evoke sensuality. Offset their sweetness with a hit of musk or amber. A spritz on your collarbone draws attention to the decolletage.
Brazen. Heady florals like Casablanca lilies and tuberose have intoxicating aromas that are almost carnal in their intensity. Dot the scent on your breastbone, wrists, and neck, and most importantly, wear it with confidence.
Complicated. Part of being seductive is appearing to be unavailable. There should be a mysterious element to your fragrance that isn’t immediately recognizable. Avoid simple scents that are dominated by a sugary note like apple or vanilla. These are too obvious, like gaudy lingerie. Even if a perfume has an initial burst of sweetness, it should always evolve into something more complex when it settles into your skin.
Indulge. A sensual woman wears fragrance from head to toe. To avoid going overboard, use a parfum or eau de toilette to highlight specific areas ~ like the decolletage and back of the knees. Apply these to damp skin after the shower. The scent will come through your clothing in a very subtle way and linger for hours, even after you’ve undressed.
